Welcome to NAASSC

The Native American Academic and Student Success Center (NAASSC) promotes academic student success, building connections, and strengthening community. NAASSC is a welcoming space and open to all students, regardless of identity, who are interested in exploring and understanding Native American experiences and engaging in productive dialogue and community with others. The retention initiative serves as a valuable resource for any student who seeks to develop their cultural competency and contribute to a campus environment that values diversity, connection and a shared commitment to the success of all students.

Our Graphic Element

NAASSC hummingbird graphic element

NAASSC chose the hummingbird as a graphic element because it represents power, regrowth and positivity for many of our communities. The circle surrounding the hummingbird serves as a way to represent both the diversity and unity of our Native community here at UC Davis. A hummingbird in flight also shows our continued movement forward both as a community and as individuals.

Land Acknowledgement

NAASSC acknowledges that for thousands of years, this land has been the home of Patwin people. Today, there are three federally recognized Patwin tribes: Cachil DeHe Band of Wintun Indians of the Colusa Indian Community, Kletsel Dehe Wintun Nation, and Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation.

The Patwin people have remained committed to the stewardship of this land over many centuries. It has been cherished and protected, as elders have instructed the young through generations. We are honored and grateful to be here today on their traditional lands.

Additional information is available on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion website.
