River Burkart is Sisseton Wahpeton, Cherokee, and Choctaw, and is majoring in Environmental Policy and Analysis with a focus on water management and law. They have worked with Save California Salmon (SCS) on projects related to Traditional Ecological Knowledge-based curriculum, dam removal, and Indigenous policy. River is passionate about advancing Indigenous-led environmental solutions through education and policy advocacy.
